CREW Calls on OMB to Release FOIA Recommendations
On April 19, 2012, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) sent a letter to Jeffrey Zients, Acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), calling on him to immediately release to Congress the public policy recommendations submitted months ago by the Office of Government Services (OGIS) to the OMB for pre-release clearance.
OGIS prepared these recommendations pursuant to the OPEN Government Act of 2007, which requires OGIS to recommend policy changes to Congress and the president on how to improve the administration of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and OGIS's role under the FOIA. CREW asks that OMB promptly clear the recommendations so that Congress can deliberate on the best way to proceed to ensure the FOIA is being implemented as effectively as possible.
